How Grafizm Figurines Are Made
Every Grafizm figurine starts the same way: a customer photograph is received, reviewed for quality, and matched to the chosen figurine form. The image is then UV-printed directly onto the material — either 5mm acrylic or 5mm MDF wood — at the selected size.
The printing process is identical for both materials. What changes is the surface it lands on: a crystal-clear, polished sheet, or a warm, matte, wood-toned panel. Those surfaces interact with the same image in different ways, producing different aesthetic results.
Understanding those differences is the fastest way to make the right choice.
Acrylic: What It Is and When to Choose It
Acrylic is UV-printed onto 5mm crystal-clear acrylic sheet with a polished finish. It is double-sided — the image reads from both the front and the back.
The look: High contrast, bright colors, clean lines. The transparency of the material gives the figurine a slightly elevated quality — it seems to float rather than sit. Colors appear more vivid on acrylic than on wood.
The feel: Smooth, glassy, substantial. The polished edges catch the light.
Where it belongs: Modern environments — contemporary homes, glass-and-steel offices, display cases with clean lines. Acrylic reads as precise and forward-facing.
When to choose it: - The recipient has a modern aesthetic - The figurine will be displayed in a bright space with good lighting - The occasion is celebratory and you want the gift to feel vibrant - You want the colors in the photograph to appear at their most vivid - The figurine will be viewed from multiple angles (acrylic's double-sided print matters here)
Wood: What It Is and When to Choose It
Wood figurines are UV-printed onto 5mm premium MDF board with a matte finish. They are single-sided — the print is on the front, the back is the natural wood tone.
The look: Warm, textured, quieter. The natural tone of the wood surface softens the image slightly, giving it a more organic quality. Colors read as richer and less saturated than on acrylic.
The feel: Lighter than you might expect, with a natural texture that makes it pleasant to handle. The matte finish has no glare.
Where it belongs: Warmer environments — traditional homes, personal studies, medical or legal offices with natural materials, spaces where warmth and texture are part of the aesthetic.
When to choose it: - The recipient prefers natural materials or traditional aesthetics - The figurine will be displayed in warm lighting or a space with wood furniture - The occasion is personal rather than corporate — a family gift, a personal retirement, a home display - You prefer the look of the photograph with some warmth in it rather than full brightness
Side by Side: The Key Differences
| Acrylic | Wood | |
|---|---|---|
| Print sides | Double-sided | Single-sided |
| Finish | Polished, glassy | Matte, natural |
| Color rendering | Vivid, high contrast | Warm, slightly softer |
| Best setting | Modern, bright | Traditional, warm |
| Most popular for | Corporate, celebration, display | Personal, home, retirement |
Both materials are printed at the same resolution from the same photograph. The quality difference between them is not one of better or worse — it is one of different.
Size and Price
Grafizm figurines are available in three sizes regardless of material: 8", 12", and 14".
| Size | Wood | Acrylic |
|---|---|---|
| 8" | $37 | $65 |
| 12" | $49 | $89 |
| 14" | $62 | $109 |
Acrylic costs more at every size, which reflects the material cost and the double-sided printing process.
For most display purposes, the 12" size is the most popular. It is large enough to be clearly visible on a shelf or desk, compact enough not to dominate a space. The 8" is a good choice for a desktop or bedside table. The 14" is for prominent, dedicated display.
When You Are Not Sure
If you are buying a figurine as a gift and you are not sure about the recipient's preferences, acrylic is the safer default. It reads as more universally contemporary, the colors are more vivid, and the double-sided print adds flexibility for display.
If you are buying for yourself, or if you know the recipient well, go with whatever matches where the figurine will live. A wood figurine in the right space looks better than an acrylic figurine in the wrong one — and the same is true in reverse.
Both are made to last. Neither will fade, warp, or degrade with normal handling and display. The choice is entirely aesthetic.
