The Three Sizes
Grafizm figurines come in three sizes. Each is a different statement about display and presence.
8" (small): Roughly the height of a standard paperback book. Compact, personal, desk- or shelf-sized. Works in tight spaces and close viewing distances. The most affordable option at both material price points.
12" (medium): The most popular size. Substantial enough to be the focal point of a shelf or desk, compact enough to sit comfortably in most spaces. The balance point between presence and proportion.
14" (large): The most prominent option. Designed to be the focal point of a display — a mantelpiece, a dedicated shelf, a prominent office wall unit. Makes an unmistakable statement.
All three sizes use the same photograph and the same printing process. The image quality scales proportionally with the size.
Choosing by Display Location
Where the figurine will be displayed is the most reliable guide to size.
Desk or workstation: The 8" or 12" size. On a working desk, a 14" figurine can feel overwhelming — it competes with the work rather than complementing it. The 8" is right for a crowded desk; the 12" for a desk with more clear space.
Office shelf or bookcase: The 12" or 14" size. A single shelf dedicated to the figurine can hold a 14" comfortably. A shelf with other objects — books, frames, plants — is usually better served by a 12".
Home study or living room display: The 12" or 14" size. In a domestic setting, the figurine is usually sharing space with other objects. The 12" fits into most arrangements; the 14" commands its own space.
Mantelpiece or dedicated display: The 14" size. A figurine meant to be the centerpiece of a prominent space earns the full size. Smaller sizes can look lost on a mantelpiece unless they're grouped with other objects.
Bedside table or personal space: The 8" or 12" size. A bedside figurine is a private, intimate object — it doesn't need to announce itself. The 8" is particularly well-suited to small personal spaces.
Choosing by Occasion
The occasion also informs the right size — not just in terms of display, but in terms of what the gift is saying.
Retirement: The 12" or 14" size. A retirement gift marks the end of a career, and the figurine should have the physical presence to reflect that significance. Smaller sizes can feel token for such a major milestone.
Graduation: The 12" size is the most common for graduation gifts. It is substantial enough to feel significant but doesn't require dedicated display space in what might be a first apartment or shared living situation.
Personal gift (birthday, anniversary, Valentine's): All sizes work. The 8" is the most personal and intimate — good for a bedroom or personal space. The 12" is the standard choice when you want something with clear presence.
Corporate or professional award: The 12" or 14" size. In an office or professional context, the figurine is likely sharing a display with other significant objects — diplomas, awards, industry recognitions. The 12" holds its own in that company; the 14" dominates it.
Thank-you gift: The 8" or 12" size. A thank-you gift is personal but should not feel excessive. The 8" says "I thought of you specifically." The 12" says "I wanted this to last."
Viewing Distance and Image Detail
One practical factor that is easy to overlook: the size of the figurine should match the typical viewing distance.
A figurine on a mantelpiece that is viewed from across the room reads differently from a figurine on a desk that is examined at close range. For distant viewing, larger sizes read better — the image has more surface area to carry detail at a distance. For close-up viewing, even the 8" carries enough detail to read as a clear likeness.
All three sizes are printed at the same resolution per inch. The difference is in how much surface area that resolution has to work with — and therefore how clearly the image reads at different distances.
Price by Size
| Size | Wood | Acrylic |
|---|---|---|
| 8" | $37 | $65 |
| 12" | $49 | $89 |
| 14" | $62 | $109 |
The step from 8" to 12" is a meaningful jump in presence without a prohibitive jump in price. The step from 12" to 14" is primarily about maximum visual impact.
For most occasions and most display contexts, the 12" size is the default recommendation: the right balance of presence, proportion, and price across both materials.
